Benefits of Electronically Capturing Field Technician Measurement Data
Houston – June 18, 2009. Quorum Business Solutions, Inc. (“Quorum”), a leading provider of business and information technology solutions for the oil, gas, and renewable energy industry, presented at the 2009 Canadian Gas Association Gas Measurement School in Halifax, NS. The presentation focused on the issues associated with manually collecting field data, the impact these problems can have throughout an organization, and how companies can avoid these disruptions through the use of electronic data capture technologies.
As an industry leader in gas and liquids measurement, Quorum is familiar with the various concerns and problems companies may have with their current field test data capture processes. The presentation reviewed the tools available to calculate natural gas volumes and other variables associated with gas measurement. It also covered the increased functionality of these new technologies to input lab analysis data and calculate associated variables such as heating value in BTUs or GJs, gravity, heat ratio, and molecular weight; to calculate gas volume loss associated with operation of a pipeline; and to allow technicians to build and maintain meter test schedules. Finally, it reviewed the benefits of leveraging these tools in daily operations, such as increasing efficiency through timely information, easier problem identification, reduction of discrepancies, reduced prior period adjustments, better use of resources, and the streamlining of measurement operations with accounting and other business functions.
